I'm not sure how to do what 'pokertracker' was suggesting, but am i right to follow that my large database of HH files is whats causing the problems?

Will purging most of the HH files help with the problem?


Just to clarify, PT3 is overheating my CPU and forcing a shutdown after intermittent use of import/HUD, even though for years i could grind + anything else at the sametime and this overheating problem would never happen.

Nothing significant has changed in the way that PT3 works recently so I wouldn't expect there to be a change in performance in that sense. Are you sure all your hardware and Windows setup is OK?

To move any existing hand history files you can either run the Setup Wizard from the File menu (which will import and move any existing HH files), or follow the Tutorial: Preventing Duplicates.

Please also check the FAQ: PT3 HUD for tuning tips and a link to how to report your problem for further investigation if you continue to have problems.

I decided to simplify things and just start a new database, backed up the old one and just decided to un/re install PT3 and also got a newer version of postgreSQL in the process, cleaned out all the old HH files.

Tried 6 tabling, and even though PT3 works a lot quicker, and the HUD comes up much quicker, CPU shot up to 100c within 5 minutes, tried turning off tableninja and WMP, didn't seem to help, nothing else was running besides PS+PT3.

I am going to go over all the standard HD/memory/CPU fixes and checks again, am going to clean dust again, but at this stage i am completely stumped, especially since maxing out some PC games isn't causing a overheat shutdown.


Any other suggestions? Only other thing i can think to do is get a new heatsink, but i've got little reason to think the one i have isn't working.

Which version of PostgreSQL did you upgrade to? We do not support 9.1.x and we have had reports that it's actually more CPU intensive and slower than 9.0.x in some cases.

Please upgrade to 8.3.19 - available here and that might help. All you should need to do is unzip that file and run Upgrade.bat and that should take care of everything (though obviously do not do this while you are playing or importing).

If your CPU is capable of overheating it's not pokertracker's or postgresql's problem. It's just means your processor is not stable. Either it's overclocked or it's cooling is not enough/faulty.

Any cpu-heavy application will have the same result, and can even damage your cpu permamently.

Thank you, this seems to have helped a decent amount, i still overheat but it takes a lot longer, and its pretty much manageable by turning off the hud every now and then.
