Open raise by position??

Postby shalder » Tue Nov 11, 2008 2:16 pm

Am trying to figure out how to build custom stats for raises from specific positions.
E.g. how often player defends his BB from UTG, or whether i am profitable defending w/ any ace vs. raises from that position, etc.

Don't know what this stat does: holdem_hand_player_detail.val_p_raise_aggressor_pos
Been trying to decipher its meaning, but don't know if i can use it to solve this problem.

That stat gives the position of the aggressor who raised preflop.

The value of "holdem_hand_player_statistics.position" is equal to the position that you were off of the button in a given hand. So 0 is the button, 1 is the cutoff, etc. 8 is always the BB and 9 always the SB even if shorter handed.

thanks kraada...

Here is some more what i learned:

- aggressor_pos val -1: either means u were the aggressor, or that there were no raisers (only limpers).
- aggressor_pos val >= 0: This is the absolute position off the button (no special vals for SB/BB)
Have to use count players to make sure that a value of 6, for instance is UTG3 and not BB, etc.
- Aggressor_pos val: records the value of the last aggresor

I guess this solves part of my problem. But there unfortunately isn't any record of the initial aggressor, that i see?
so if say, u 3 bet out of the BB and villain calls, the value stored is -1 (-1 because u were the aggressor, he might see 9 stored in his val_aggressor).
So there appears to be no way to filter for 3-bet-defending vs. UTG raises, etc?

The BB is always 8, and the SB is always 9. If the table is 8 handed then there is no position 7 instead it goes straight to 8 and 9.

You're right that there's no record of the initial aggressor as its own database entry, though for each hand the initial aggressor was the person who opened. Right now there's no way to join to an opponent's flags but if you could you could find the guy who opened in that pot and what his position was. I'm not sure there are any plans to implement this sort of functionality anytime soon, though.

However if you want to see the times when you were facing a 3bet and UTG you can use the flg_p_3bet_def_opp (3bet defence preflop opportunity) flag to see if you faced a 3bet, and if you couple that with open and raise then you'd have raised and been 3bet and you can see how you do in those spots.

Am actually looking for defending BB or 3 betting, based on what range of hands was opened.
E.g. if villain opens from UTG+4 thats top 6% of hands on average. Defending BB vs. those hands with say AJo, playing it fit/fold (limit poker), profitable?

I was editing my initial post when u replied, so i'd just point out that i found there is a bet_aggressor_pos and raise_aggressor_pos, for every street EXCEPT preflop?
For preflop there is only a raise_aggressor_pos.

There is no initial bet preflop, that's why there's no bet aggressor position.

You can look at times they face raises in the BB and aren't facing a steal, which would get you at least earlier position, but no you can't pick out hands in the BB where you're facing an EP steal afaik.

You will need to build pairs of columns like this, then build stats from them:

cnt_p_open_opp_BU =
sum(if[holdem_hand_player_statistics.flg_p_open_opp AND holdem_hand_player_statistics.position = 0, 1, 0])
cnt_p_open_raise_BU =
sum( if[holdem_hand_player_statistics.flg_p_open_opp AND holdem_hand_player_statistics.flg_p_first_raise AND holdem_hand_player_statistics.position = 0, 1, 0])

Position 0 is the button, 1 is the cutoff, etc. 8 is always BB and 9 is always SB.
