trying to ID a possible leak

Postby bobismyuncle73 » Tue Feb 24, 2009 12:32 am

I think I may have a 'leak' but can't seem to think of the best way to find it...

I'm a player who built a BR initially from freerolls, and then switched to buy in SNG's and MTT's.

Its a few hundred dollars in size now, BUT, i'm finding every time I cross a new hundred dollar threshold in my BR, my game then nosedives afterwards. I've noticed this a few times now. It's like I take three steps forward...and then two steps back...or even four steps back at times. The non-rational part of my brain is telling me that its Full Tilt trying to make more tournament fees off me...the rational part of my brain is telling me that its "me" playing looser after some wins then I should be.

I crossed a new threshold just a few days ago...and already i've lost those winnings, plus a bit more.

Its getting more then a little annoying...

I understand that poker is a game of variance but i'm wondering how much of my actual play might be contributing to this as well.

I'm thinking if I was able to compare my play every few thousand hands...it might help me to understand what 'might' be wrong. For example if I examined 5000 hands...and looked at specifics of my play every 1000 hands or so to see if there was a problem. I'm not sure if i'm articulating this right but hopefully someone here might understand what I mean. I have no doubt some of you have experienced this as well...just wondering if someone might have already developed some kinda report to look at this...thanks

I have experienced something similar historically myself, unfortunately I'm both a cash game player, and I'm not certain what's the best way to try and pick out what is going wrong for you.

That said, this post contains links to classic information on using your PT stats to improve your game, so I'd recommend giving them a read.
