I've asked this before and got told that it's planned but not yet available. So, if I want to build this stat on my own - how would I go about doing that?

For the HUD this just isn't available right now, I'm afraid. It is still planned, but it won't be available until after Build 5 at the earliest.

I don't want it for the HUD, I just want it as a general statistic.

In that case you should be able to build it using the holdem_hand_summary.amt_pot database field. Just add that value up, divide by how many hands and it will give you the average total pot for however many hands are in your database.

Ok, how does this field work in LHE compared to NLHE? Since I play LHE, will I have to do some limit conversions or something to be able to compare potsizes across different limits?

amt_pot is the total size of the pot in dollars. If you wanted to normalize to big bets or big blinds you would need to divide amt_pot by the appropriate amount.
