running PT2 from an external hard drive

hello, thanks in advance for your help. i'm not very technologically gifted.

i have pt2 + postgresql. i have a large database of about 40gb or so. this has led to my computer's drive being low on space.

i have a 250 gb external hard drive that i recently got. is there a way i can move/run pt from this external drive? if so, what would i need to do? please keep in mind i need things explained slowly and clearly.
