Feature requst: time adjustment

Postby dbabo » Wed Jan 04, 2012 10:04 pm

Hello,
TT frp, 2+2 (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showp ... tcount=744) advised to file a request here.
I'm _Very_ surprised that such a simple and essential functionality is absent from PT4.
HEM2 has it. Plus i don't see how its difficult to implement even on the fly (http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.2/stat ... etime.html ):
date+ $TIME_ADJ and you are done.

Anyway. I request the elementary and absolutely needed function of adjusting time in the HH files to local time ( or any specified by user).

thank you.

Thanks, I'll pass on your request, but can you give us a bit more detail?
Which site(s) are you playing at?
What timezone are you in?
Is your computer configured to the correct timezone (rather than just having the clock set correctly)?
How much are the times offset by in PT4?

PT4 stores all hand history times in GMT and automatically adjusts them to your local time. Thus even if you were to take PT4 to a new time zone your times will be correct.

Is there some other functionality you are trying to achieve? It might be clearer if you explain the workflow you are attempting to accomplish.

Rider, tarix,
thank you for your reply. No specific workflow, other than an ability to easily identified hands/sessions played in the reporting area. I don't play on multiple networks/sites yet, but ( and i speculate here ) different sites might store timestamp with different TZ. So the functionality to adjust TZ per each site to some arbitrary TZ might not be a bad idea.

For example:
i play in GMT-5, my friend is in GMT+5, site we both played a session on is in GMT. We would like to compare our reports on some session.

hope this helps.
thank you
Andrew

As long as the time zone is specified in the hand history both your and your friend's hands would be converted to GMT when imported. Thus if you looked at the two hands in the same database the times should line up properly.

right. i missed that PT4 _converts_ into GMT. Thank you.

Actually, here is another closely related problem highlighted by TT (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showp ... tcount=759) - the absence of TZ information in HH file. How does PT4 deal with this situation now?

It's usually implicit. For example many world-wide sites always store their hand histories in DST correct Eastern Standard Time. Other sites either use GMT/UTC directly or they append the timezone information.

If we run into a case where the timezone starts to diverge then we will add a way for the user to specify it. (We believe this will eventually happen as the same poker software is used in closed markets.)

I'm really sad that this feature still isn't implemented :(
Graphing functions and stats involving time played are useless because some french skins (ipoker and maybe others) don't write the correct time in HH.
Please add this soon !

It was my understanding that most sites now were uniform in their time zone if they didn't specify exactly what they were doing. Could you attach some of these hand histories from the French skins in question that aren't importing properly for you to a support ticket? We'll look into what is going wrong here and what we can do for you.
