Easier system for reviewing opponents

Postby PandaLife » Sun Mar 25, 2012 11:45 am

Have you guys had a look at HM2's player analysis function? Image from HM2
Getting something like that to PT4 would be very good, it's the biggest reason why I didn't want to let go of HM2. It's just a great way of reviewing opponents very easily and effective, with PT4 I feel it's much more cumbersome to do so :( Please make something like this for PT4!

The three main functions:

- Having a list of active players from the current session to choose from, so you don't have to search for every individual player to bring up his hands/stats/review window, also makes it much quicker to switch between players.

- Have something along the lines of the filters from HM2 screenshot (position filters, preflop line, flop board texture, and postflop line) I know you can use the regular filters in PT4 do to all the same things, but it would be really good to be able to change filters to view the differences between eg. villains cbet turn and check turn range with one simple click. It's all about the efficiency, if I can change villains action from cbetting, check/calling, check/raising and so on with just one click it makes life so much easier.

- The flop/turn/river hand strength pie chart is also a function I really would love to see in PT4, if you have like 20 known hands where villain cbets turn there is quite a bit of information to "manually" go through to get a overview of what his range looks like, but with a simple pie chart showing the different hand strengths he has cbet turn with you have a solid overview in a second.

Hi DNAPANDA -

We have looked at the HM2 line explorer already, luckilly most of the concepts that are included in the line explorer are already in PT4, albeit using a very different (and in my opinion) easier to use system. Have you looked into the PokerTracker 4 Holdem Range Visualizer yet? Using this tool combined with custom reports can easily duplicate the functionality, and perhaps even exceed it for some users. But we admit there is one flaw - we don't yet allow you to quickly change the active player to one of your current opponents without typing in the player's name. We are investigating methods to do this, if we agree internally on a simple sollution that is unobtrusive to the user then we will be sure to include it in PT4 in the future. Feel free to make sugestions, there is room for ideas to accomplish this goal since this automated active player name changing sollution would be a new addition to our tool set.

I think making a simple extra players list like in this picture with active players when in a session would be a good solution.

I have looked at the Holdem Range Visualizer and am very positive about using that for preflop analyses, but what I miss from HM2's line analyses functions is the postflop filters, and how easy it is to combine with position, preflop line, board texture without going through a lot of filters. If I want to have the same kind of ability with PT4 I pretty much have to create quick filters for every possible situation.. That will take a lot of time and be very complex. If you have a proposal for me how I can easily review a players different postflop tendencies I would love to hear them, because at the moment I feel HM2's line analyses is far more appealing and easier to use.

I hope you will consider adding a pie chart for a clearer visual overview of a players hand strength like in this picture.

Also, I am wondering how the range numbers in the Holdem Range Visualizer are calculated? In the picture below this player 3bets 5.31%, so I thought the numbers in the holecards should add up to that number?

I don't know a this point what our intentions are with further graphing improvements - it is possible that eventually we will look into those kinds of graphs.

Regarding the Holdem Hand Range Visualizer - one button you have selected on the left is important to determining what the value you are seeing means. If you have "Range" selected you are seeing what percentage of hands he acts with is each hand. If you have "Value" selected you are seeing the percentage of times he takes that action with that hand.

The numbers in your screenshot do look odd though - I would expect someone to be 3betting more than 1.45% of the time they have aces and a chance to 3bet (I'd expect much closer to 100%) - so it doesn't seem like it would be Value. But those numbers are all too small to add up to Range so I'm not entirely sure what is going on there. But this is how it is supposed to work.

hi,

i must admit that most of functionality of your competitor "line analysis" tool can be reproduced in PT4. however in terms of UI i dont feel it is best solution to have basic line filters outside of currently viewing page in process of analysis. also there are too many clicks in filters section to achieve what we need once we want to filter complex situation. on other hand i understand that it can be contraproductive and confusing to have filters in both places, specially for novices in analysis. maybe you should consider basic line filters in hand range visualizer page, lets say on right side (there is plenty of space, specially on widescreen monitors). if not in PT4, then in PT5 for sure. and btw i am also fan of pie chart graphs ;)

what i wanted to ask and why i was searching about this theme is that in competitors product this feature is also included in HUD. from time to time it would be perfect to have ability to fast click oponent line from drop down menus, check his position and look at sweet pie graph what hands he might have. for me this is something you should definitely consider to add. i think its better than simple number. yes, we have for example opponent 55% cbeting on turn. but are there any pure air bluffs in his range? or those are only draws or made hands? i hope you are aware of functions how it works in HM, so no further examples needed.
maybe something like this will be included in advertised "new player tagging system" (in terms of PR it would be nice to tell us from time to time what we should expect)? :o

thanks,
Richard

We are aware of such functionality, I hope we will be able to have more interesting display methods in the HUD at some point, though it is not a small change for us based on how we do things. Given the nature of that kind of change, I really can't give you a time frame at this point in time.

can you confirm it might be included in PT4 or is it matter of future releases?

I am afraid that as a policy we do not comment on future release plans unless these plans are made public in advance before we released PokerTracker 4, for example it is known that we intend to add a automated tagging system eventually but that was announced long before we released PT4 to the public. This means we cannot confirm anything, sorry!

I am curious. Let's say I want to break down an opponent's check raise frequency on the flop, and I want a similar breakdown as seen in
the pie chart; how do I filter for that? I have tried, but I just don't see how to do that.

Thanks in advance.

Use the Final Hands at Showdown report, and set your filter for check raising the flop as normal. You'll see a breakdown one hand strength per row, and the filter will limit it to hands wherein there was a check raise.
